I have changed some of our practices to accommodate traveling.  So, make sure you check the calendar often

BBB on the 7th and 8th

The games on Dec. 7th and 8th are at Richfield.  I don't have much info on them right now.  But, I will send you in stunt groups so you can stunt.  Also, if we decide to perform at the games, everyone will go both days.  Just a thought

Christmas Dance

The only home game we have in December is on the 15th.  We are going to perform a Christmas dance.  The song is Run, Run, Rudolph by Cello Green.  We will practice every morning the week of the 26th through the 29th of November to learn this dance.  These are mandatory.  If you miss you will not be in this performance.  The week after that, I will decide then if we need every day practices still.  (We probably will)

Wrestling hair

I won't make you wear your hair up for wrestling unless you are on the floor at region and state.  Other than that your hair can be down, sort of.  I want your bangs out of your eyes.  So, for now that is the rule.  Bangs up.  If you are still spending way to much time messing with your hair or it is always in your face, we will go to half up.  If that doesn't solve the problem, then we will go to hair up.  And as always, no jewelry!!!

Wrestling tourney and JV BBB plan

Tuesday there is a wrestling tourney and a BBB JV game.  The tourney is in the high school gym and the BBB game is at the middle school.  Mr. Elmer wants me to send some cheerleaders to the JV game.  Here is the plan.  We will be doing a flag ceremony at the tourney.  There will be someone singing the national anthem.  Then we cheer.  I will not be putting you in assigned spots for this.  If there becomes a problem, then I will.  I am helping run this tournament, so I will be of no help to you.  Captains need to sit in the middle.  Clap all cheers out and then do the actions.  If we have 2 boys wrestling at the same time, here are your assignments.
Mat 1:                                          Mat 2:
Loryn                                           Tasha
Amanda                                       Crystal
Morgan                                        Brennan
Brinlee                                          Tayy
Ronnie                                          Kiera

If there is only 1 boy wrestling, then everyone cheers.  When your mat finishes, go cheer at the match that is still going.  Now, captains, I expect you to lead with respect at all times.  This means that just because you are a captain does not mean you have the right to be bratty or mean to get people to do what you want them to do.  You get more bees with honey than vinegar!!  And while I am on this subject, I am not blind... I see those of you that roll your eyes at me or give me dirty looks when I change something or tell you to do something you don't want to do.  STOP IT!!!  It doesn't hurt my fillings, but it does make me loss respect for you!  And if  you keep it up, I don't feel bad about embarrassing you in public.

Now the problem of the JV game.  Mr. Elmer wants some of you to go.  Go cheer this game and as soon as it is done, come back up to the high school.  Leisa will have to get you there.  I will make arrangements with her for that.  So, let's send Loryn (to watch her bro), Kiera, Ronnie, Tayy, and Brennan. Mr. Elmer wanted me to send all JV cheerleaders, but, I think we need some experienced cheerleaders to help the others since this will be your first BBB game.

When these girls are gone, if there are 2 boys wrestling at the same time, just sit in between both mats and do generic cheers.  Make it work.  Hopefully they won't be gone that long.

Here we go again!!!

OK, basketball and wrestling season really get going this week.  Here are a few things I want you to keep in mind.
#1: Cheerleading is suppose to be fun.
*No critisizing each other.  That is my job.
       *Do your best.
*Have a good attitude at the events you are assigned. You are there, so you might as well make the best
         of it.
*If you are doing your job, you shouldn't be looking at others to see what they are doing wrong.  You
         shouldn't have time.
#2: We are performers!
*The second we start a game until it ends, you are performing.
*Smile, people are constantly watching you
*Do your job, don't spend so much time talking to the crowd and forget you are cheering for a team.
*Don't be lazy.  Do a descent rally every time.
*Some of you act like you are being tortured to be on the floor, STOP IT!!! This is what you signed up
for, so put on a smile and perform full out.
*If you are performing your best, you should be tired after you dance or stunt.
#3: Once the game starts, you do not leave it!
*The only break you get once a game starts is during half time if there is any time after we perform.
Rather than that, no drinks, no restroom, and no food.  You have a job to do, and we look lazy when
there is always someone coming or going.
*So plan food and drink breaks.  Go before the game, between the games, or at the end of the game.
#4: Whether you like the people on the team we are cheering for or not is irrelavent.  We cheer for all WHS
teams.  Not each individual.  So, every team and every individual gets our best effort no matter what.

The game on Thursday is against Oakley.  They are a private or a charter school.  I'm not sure which.  It will be at noon.  Plan on staying for 2 nights.  If they get beat twice they are out.  If they loose the play in game they are out.  If they win, they keep playing.  The girls that come up with Leisa will have to leave some time Friday no matter what to get back for ACT tests.

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Remember, no practice on Thursday because we will be decorating for the dance.  I will find out what time Liesa wants to start.

Practices

Plan on practices on Mondays and Thursdays. I like having set dates or time passes and we don't get our practices in.  These are days that we have less activities.  But, I also realize that sometimes you will be on buses the night before.  So, if you are going to get home late, just let me know and we can reschedule.

Demerit System

Since Taunee isn't coaching anymore I am simplifying the demerit system for myself.  It is to hard for me to remember that point system.  And I will be more consistent if I use a point system I can remember.  Here it is.

*1 point - up to first 5 minutes late, forgetting poms or hair bows, missing practice
             if excused
*2 points - anything over 5 minutes late, no shoes for practice or no
practice clothing, missing an event but excused from it
*3 points - excessive lateness (late 3 out of 5 times), disrespect
*4 points - not showing up for an event

5 points will result in probation.  10 points you will be benched.  Points
can be worked off.  The projects and how many points it will subtract are
                   up to the coach.

As you can see, you will get demerits even if excused.  This is to help prevent girls from missing for lame-o reasons.  If you miss, it screws us up.  This starts immediately!!! All demerits will be wiped out and start new on Monday.  No start overs from now on.

Homecoming

Cheerleaders are in charge of Homecoming this year and we are really short on time.  We were going to have it in October, but the first week of October is the start of state BB.  And there isn't much going on for VB and XC in October that month either.  So, the week it is going to be is September 17-21st with the dance on the 22nd.  We have got to get planning now!!!  We will be having a planning meeting on Thursday August 30.  The meeting is for Cheerleaders and their Moms.  It will be at 7 pm in the library.  Bring any ideas you have.  We will be planning and making assignments.  This is a big week but if everyone helps it can be super fun!!!

Chaperoning

I am going to start assigning parents to chaperon away games.  I will put your Mom on the calendar now so she can make arrangements if she needs to.  If your Mom is assigned to chaperon a game, she must ride the bus over and back.  You girls must also ride on the bus.  You can only go home with a parent, not a sibling, grandparent friend etc.  If your Mom is assigned a game and has any questions have her call me.  Also, same rule as before, you are not allowed to trade.  If you have a problem with what you are assigned get a hold of me and I will fix it.
If you have not paid for the rest of your cheer stuff you need to... so I can get all of this cheer stuff out of my house.  If you don't know how much you owe, text me and I will let you know.

Pictures

Faun needs to change our pictures back one week.  So, I am going to schedule them for August 28th.  That is a Tuesday.  It will cost $50 a girl.  You will have to have the money there to get your pictures done.  I will let you know what we are wearing and for sure what time.  Make sure you free up you calendar for this.  These pictures will be displayed in the school all year.

Your stuff

The rest of your stuff is starting to come.  Like liners, bows and poms.  But, I hate the poms, so I'm sending them back and getting some different ones.  I have a finance sheet for each of you.  Check it and make sure it is correct.  I will give you your stuff as you pay me.

Apple Days

Kiera,
We need you to make a poster that says WHS Cheerleaders.  Lemonade $1 and chocolate covered strawberries and bananas. $2 per stick.  You can put this in your own words.  But this is the info we need on it.   You also need to assign 2 people to make 1 sign each to go on the trailer at the parade!!!   Thanks

Apple Days Plan

The plan for Apple Days is...

Amanda is working on getting us us truck and trailer.  Keira is hopefully able to help us out with the sound system.  We will meet at Torrey at 9:00 am to hang signs on the trailer and run through our dance.  Wear your jersey with white tank, and white shorts.  Hair up!!! No hair accessories unless I get white hair bows for everyone.  I do not want to see your bra through your jersey so make sure your tank does it's job.
As soon as the parade is over.  (it starts at 10 am) we will go to our booth.  We are selling lemonade and chocolate covered strawberries and bananas.  If you are not there you will not get any money from this fund raiser.  We are going to take a portion of this money after we pay off expenses and put towards operating costs.  After that you girls get the money to go towards warm-ups and poms, etc.

The schedule for the booth:

After parade to 12
 *mom in charge Lori Chappell

12:00 to 1:00
 *mom in charge Cheryl Hunt

Girls with the most demerits have the last shift to work some off by helping with clean-up.  You cannot trade shifts with each other.  If you have a problem you need to call Rachelle.

Campwear

For camp we have 3 shirts and 2 shorts.  We debated not getting these since we are having our own camp.  But, you will definetly wear these through the year so here is the plan.
You have the white t-shirt you got for safety clinic and purple shorts.
Jersey and white shorts.  (returning girls have these, new girl will have to buy them)
Grey shirt that can also be worn with your purple shorts.

So, this is how the money has to work.
Jerseys:  Taunie paid for these.  So, all new girls will have to pay her $24.50
Shorts: Rachelle paid for these.  For both pairs you need to pay $20.60
Grey:  Rachelle also paid for this.  They are $10.00

You need to bring this money to camp on Tuesday morning.  I will not give you your stuff if you don't pay for it.
So, here is the summary:
Returning girls: Check to Rachelle Jeffery for $30.60
New girls: Check to Taunie Ellett for $24.50 and Check to Rachelle Jeffery for $30.60

Uniforms

Well, uniform fittings went well.  We will have 2 new uniforms.  One will be motion flex, long sleeved and the other will be polyester sleeveless.  I tried to stay within the budget I set.  But, I went a little over.  Leisa and I decided since we aren't having camp that a little over on uniforms is ok.

Wayne uniform:  (motion flex long sleeve)
Shirt $70.95
Skirt: $59.95
Lettering: $25.50 (lettering sucks...it always adds more than I like)
Total: $156.40 (I went over by $6.40)

WHS uniform: (polyester sleeveless)
Shell & skirt package: $95.95
Lettering: $17.25
Total: $113.20 (I went over by $18.20)

Also, I am trying to do this through the school so you don't have to pay sales tax.  The only other thing you will have to pay is shipping and handling and that is $18.73

So, I need 100% of this money before July 1st so that we can have them before school starts.  Mr. Elmer has made it very clear that if you do not have all of your money to me by then your uniform will not be ordered.  So the total for each girls uniform including shipping is $288.33  Get this to Rachelle in a check before July 1st.  I don't want cash.  Make the check payable to WHS.   I need to talk to the district office to make sure all of this is good.  If they want me to change something I will let you know.

Next weeks Schedule

We will practice 3 times next week and then no more until June 4th (brush up practice before camp)
Monday at 4:30
Tuesday after school & uniform fitting from 4 to 5
Wednesday at 4:30 for Stunt group A
Thursday at 6 am for Stunt group C

On the uniform fitting.  We will have a varsity rep there.  She will be fitting you for 1 uniform.  The varsity rep and your coaches will put together some uniform options for you to vote on.  We will not be giving you the book and saying, go for it, pick what you want.  That causes way to much drama. The other uniform we will be getting from another company.  It will be a little cheaper to keep prices down.  But, it only has to last 2 years then we will be able to replace it.  The goal is 3 uniforms every year.  We retire 1 and gain 1.  It will take us 2 years to get into this cycle.  So, this year 1 from varsity and one cheaper.  Varsity is good about keeping their uniforms around for the 3 years I keep them in rotation.  So, the 2 uniforms we get this year will work like this.  The cheaper one lasts 2 years and then we can retire it.  The varsity 1 lasts 3 years and then it is retired.  And next year we get 1 new one (it will last 3 years, etc as so on).  I have found this keeps prices down but keeps the uniforms in good shape.

We will have 2 to 3 choices for you to pick from.  This way you are picking from the right fabric (motion flex.  It stretchs with you as you grow or shrink, also when you perform.  It doesn't ride up as bad and isn't as hot in the gyms when you are cheering) you are staying with in our budget and the dress code that we think is important we maintain.   We can really get out of control on money with uniforms.  This really helps us maintain our budget.

So, plan on getting fitted but that is all.

Camp

Camp will be great this year.  To save money and keep costs as low as possible we are doing a home camp.  We save a lot of money by not having to worry about gas, food and housing.  The dates are June 5th, 6th and 7th.  These will be long days.  Rachelle will be bringing the material we will be learning for the year.
Also, I would like to have some Moms bring in lunch so that we can eat together during camp without having to travel and spend alot of money (team bonding).  Leisa or I will try and contact you personally and ask what you could help with.

Money stuff

On the side I have posted the budget I have figured for this year.  There are somethings that everyone will need and there are somethings that the returning girls will already have.  I will try and make a list here of those things for your info:

Everyone needs:
Shoes
Camp Fee
Campwear:  (will be used throughout the year for various things)
white zebra shirt w/ shorts (should have shirt, shorts are coming)
Purple jersey w/ white soffe shorts
  3rd set of campwear
Warm-ups
2 uniforms
Purple spandex
bag
poms
white bow
gold bow
white liner

Returning Girls may have:
Purple jersey
purple spandex
bag
white liner
(I don't know what bows you had last year)

So when we order you need to tell us if you have these things or if you need new.  I plan on using alot of the same stuff next year.  So, the first year always costs more, but then it cost alot less the other years.

Practice...

I looked at your testing schedule and it looks like there is testing on and off for the next 2 weeks.  Then it is the last week of school.  I will do the best I can to arrange practice so you are not tired during testing.  The way I had it arranged before was everyone would only have one practice a week.  Except officers would be there twice once stunting and once spotting.

So, we will not have officers spot. If Taunie and Leisa can come, they can help me spot.

Group A (Amanda's stunt group) Tuesday morning practice at 6:00 am.
Group B (Brennan's stunt group) Wednesday morning practice at 6:15 am.
Group C (Crystal's stunt group) Friday morning practice 6:15 am.

If after school works better, text me.  The whole group needs to be there.  So, usually mornings work better if girls have to work or other practices.

No one will practice Thursday. I have to take Wade to his specialists in St. George.

Spankies

These are the 3 styles of spandex or spankies you can choose from.  I was looking for higher waisted ones.  But, the higher waisted ones have shorter leg inseams.  They will be purple.  You can choose high waist, V or straight waist.  Choose which one you want and what size and I will get them ordered.  I don't care if everyone has different waists.  The benefit of high waist is your belly won't show if you raise your arms.  Also helps with muffin top.

Style #:MT3446The inseam is 2". Cost is $$19.95

Motionwear's V-Waist Shorts offer an elastic-free, comfortable and flattering v-front waistband and longer inseam.  Inseam is 2 3/4". Cost is $19.50

These comfortable flat waist shorts feature a moderate inseam and banded leg openings. The bands help keep the legs securely in place to allow worry-free movement. Inseam is 2 3/8".  Cost is $23.00

Officers Meeting

We will have an officers meeting for all officers Tuesday during lunch at Leisa Hilton's house.  She will be feeding you lunch.  We will explain your assignments for the year and see what you girls want to accomplish.  We will be done in time for you to back to school on time. So, get there as soon as you can and we will get done as soon as we can.

Practices

We are going to have to hold off on practice for a minute.  I didn't realize that you had end of level testing.  So, we will look at your testing schedule and see what time frames we have open and reschedule some practices.  Check back here tomorrow afternoon, I should have it posted by then.

For safety clinic we have ordered you some shirts.  They should be done.  The shorts aren't here yet.  So wear dark shorts.  Black if possible or navy.  Spankies (always) NO nails, NO jewelry, NO bangs and NO gum. Oh yeah and NO butt shorts.  So, get your hair up and out of your eyes.  If you are a returning girl wear last years shoes.  If you are new just wear white shoes.  We will text you the time we will be leaving.

You Made It!!!

If you are reading this, then you made the team!!! Congratulations!!! Here are a few notes to help you know what we expect.
*Your coaches for this year are Taunie Ellett, Rachelle Jeffery and Leisa Hilton

Taunie and Leisa will be incharge of all fund raisers and money issues
Rachelle will be incharge of practices and game planning.

We have safety clinic Friday May 4th in Richfield from 4-6 pm. For those of you that may not know what this is, it is a required clinic for all cheerleaders in the state of Utah. They hold these clinics all over the state. You have to be to this. This is mandatory. You need to do everything in your power to be to this. If you are not, you do not stunt.

Because this clinic is so close to our tryouts, we will be having practices Monday through Thursday to try and get our stunt groups worked out.  It is important when we show up to safety clinic, that we have some idea of where each of you will be in a stunt group.
